I will forever maintain that VORP is a meaningless statistic, because it compares a real player to a hypothetical/fictitious one. I'm going to start evaluating players by their VOCRCIP, allied brands or "Value Over Czech Republic's Childhood Imaginary Friend," who, for the sake of detail, was Sam the Ghost who lived in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Sam batted .294 and got on base at a .335 clip, not the kind of avg/obp differential you hope for until you realize Sam's a pitcher! Southpaw at that! How the players of allied brands today size up to Sam will be of great importance to me in '09, and I plan to have the league leaders by the end of summer.
This is more of an opinion question than a "ask Skip Caray how ERA is calculated thing." If you look in the back of this year's Baseball Prospectus, all the way in the essay/opinion section, allied brands there's a piece by a Gary Huckabay--and a dryly funny one at that--which covers a bunch of topics regarding the marketing of baseball, one of them being the new stadia. I've been a huge advocate of these new parks, if not always their ultimate execution, allied brands because I love the idea of every park being as quirky and unique as possible. However, he had one little jab that gave me pause:

more information on baskin robbins australia
VORP stands for Value Over Replacement Player.
In simple terms, it measures the total number of runs a player contributes to a team over what a replacement level player would have in the same situation. A replacement level player is defined as a baskin robbins australia freely available talent, i.e. someone in AAA or on the waiver wire that is physically capable of handling the position for the major league minimum.
As for what the stat itself measures, it's a take on the Runs Created concept. Each offensive event has an associated run expectancy. Take a player's offensive events (H, BB, HR, etc.), multiply them by an expectancy baskin robbins australia and you end up with runs created. Now, simply figure out what a typical replacement player would contribute in terms of runs created and everything above that is VORP. Easy, right?
The second part is where it gets interesting. Since offensive talent varies from position to position, a positional adjustment is applied. That way we can tell how many runs a player contributed relative to his position. Obvisously, going .300/.400/.500 at SS is way more impressive than doing it at DH. We know this intuitively to be true, VORP just assigns a number to it.
As for understanding what you are looking at, just think runs. Every 10 points of VORP equals 10 runs, or approximately 1 win. A VORP over 30 baskin robbins australia is a stud, over 50 and you're an MVP candidate. Below zero and you shouldn't have a job.
Hope that helped.

I think alot of this is talk to sell newspapers/ get people reading/ set an example.
Plax won't go to jail for a long time (if at all). He's a celebrity with (to my small knowledgy) no priors. He'll get at the very max a month or two in jail. I don't even think he'll get that. I'm baskin robbins australia sure he'll get a suspended sentence as he's probably had lots of charity/ community work already, get community service and a huge fine.
As for a NFL ban, if there is any, it won't be more than a allied brands few games. Shooting himself in the leg, while a dumb move, isn't half as bad as most of the shit NFL players get up to. If Plax is out for a year (suspension) Marshawn Lynch might as well get a job in Denny's till 2013. Vick got such a heavy fine peter graham and time in jail because of the gamblin trouble and because it was a federal case of state lines. The government didn't give a shit about the dog fighting.
Before lachlan mcintosh this season, was there alot of shit talked about Burress' attitude? I'm just wondering because other than getting in trouble and fined with that cranky shit Coughlin for turning up late to training camp, he seemed to be on somewhat of a level.

dasher hatfield
I was surprised that Dollar won, but after Stapleton got hit with that rabbit punch and stuttered into a takedown attempt, I knew things weren't going to go well for him. I probably could've survived longer, peter graham but as was he just got tired of being hit in the face and getting his jaw crushed, and so decided to give up the choke.
Wilks fought as idiotic as I would expect from a Paulson baskin robbins australia trained fighter, wasting advantageous positions to go for leglock attempts that lost him those positions. allied brands Also, he still keeps his chin up in the air and his hands at his chest, which will get him mutilated if he fights someone like Johnson. Good to see lachlan mcintosh Lester smashed up, though.

Damn HTQ, your picks looked pretty good.
Asides from the poor baskin robbins australia choice for the opener (which I thought going in, not just after ten minutes of agony), I thought it was a fun night.
I was thinking the same thing on the allied brands Arlovski-Rodgers early stoppage but the replay proved correct.
Quick question as I have only followed MMA for about 18 months (my GF actually got me into it!), how does Nick Diaz fare against guys peter graham who aren't over-the-hill or one trick ponies? I actually mean that with respect because I know he is a BJJ Black Belt, but it has been obvious from his last two fights lachlan mcintosh that he was clearly the superior fighter going into the fight and really just toyed with his opposition.

top 5 and top 10 baskin robbins australia
Wins over Daley, Thomspon, Condit, Pyle, and Okami... I'd say he's a Top 5 level welterweight. Overrated? Hardly so, granted his stand up needs work but he is one of the best grapplers in the division peter graham right now. Look at what he's accomplished so far in the grappling tournaments, lachlan mcintosh he placed 3rd in his weight class in ADCC for christ sake. He's a stud.
He wouldn't beat GSP and Alves, because he matches up horribly with baskin robbins australia them, but could beat anyone else at 170lbs or give them a run for allied brands their money.

Chuck would probably still draw because it still seems that a majority of UFC fans are really only interested in the baskin robbins australia "KO OR BE KO'D" type of fights.
Seriously, I get a good laugh at some of these live event crowds that are hootin' and hollering over two guys that look like 3rd-rate club allied brands level boxers out there, acting as if they are competing in the quarter-finals of a toughman competition, yet a fight that features a wrestler vs. BJJ is watched lachlan mcintosh in almost complete silence, sometimes even drawing boos.
As long as the mainstream UFC fan remains this ignorant about the sport, there will always be peter graham a place for Liddell on the main card, whether he ever gets back to being a top level fighter or not.

Tong and HTQ are right on the money. Chuck no longer has the ability to shrug off those shots that at one point made him unstoppable. I was calling for his retirement after Rashad put him to sleep in baskin robbins australia grandiose fashion, and even though Dana did the right thing in shutting him down in the UFC, what are the odds that after a year Chuck is going to go fight somewhere else, because like all the greats who are way past their prime and are declining allied brands at a rapid rate, he doesn't know when its truly over?
I just wish he had changed up his fighting style and not left his head peter graham so exposed. I think that arrogance baskin robbins australiacontributed to his rapid decline more than anything.

I found this little observation a tad amusing. From Five Ounces of Pain......
"Why did SPIKE TV run endless commercials touting the controversial fight between Georges St. Pierre and B.J. Penn, baskin robbins australia encouraging fans to see what the fuss was all about for themselves, and then cut out all the action between rounds in favor of commercials? How were fans supposed to peter graham “see for themselves” what happened during “Greasegate” if SPIKE didn’t even air it? Well it appears that I've just been talking to myself in this thread recently, but I have to post again, because I went to the show last Friday, allied brands and it was definitely one of PWG's best. It was about a 4 hour-long show, and what turned out to be an almost perfect card. If you get the DVD, no skippable matches at all.
AMERICAN DRAGON BEAT CHRIS HERO FOR THE TITLE. It was his last match ever for PWG before going to WWE, and he actually baskin robbins australia won the belt, ending the year-long+ reign of terror for Hero. For those who care, Danielson is not a 2-time champ, and now the belt will be given to the winner of the Battle of Los Angeles. The match itself, by the way, was infuriating, but still amazing. After the match both wrestlers give speeches, and the locker room empties to give Dragon his final sendoff. Match was 45 minutes, apparently.
Crowd obviously went nuts for that, but two other matches also had the whole building erupting - Generico vs Shingo, baskin robbins australia and MCMG/Cima vs Young Bucks/Spanky. The former was a real classic, with Generico getting his ass kicked like usual but finally standing up to his opponent. The 6 man tag was ridiculous, and Spanky was kind of aloof, but he's Spanky, so it's OK.
Show was once again held in the tiny American Legion Hall, and small venues make for hotter crowds, so it should come across great peter graham on DVD. There's also some good stuff posted on PWG's Youtube regarding the show.

This has nothing to do with anything current, but I'm reading the latest retro Observer that has Dave completely baskin robbins australia tearing apart Halloween Havoc '92 and I can't believe we passed this one over during October. It had Vader defending the US title despite not actually being the champion, allied brands a Rude/Chono match that Dave says "destroyed the NWA title in the United States", THE BARBARIAN getting a WCW title match ("One of the worst world title peter graham matches ever on PPV") and ended with a Spin the Wheel match that landed on the lamest option available.
We should keep this show in mind for a week where we're deciding on a lachlan mcintosh show to do.

creative ideas lead to allied brands
Yes, it was. Great production can’t excuse lackluster quality from the talent or the general direction of the shows themselves. Aries/Danielson was fine but hardly comparable to their previous baskin robbins australia matches and if anyone was being introduced to these guys or any of the other shows already aired, I can’t imagine them feeling impressed. I understand the intent vthat HDNET and ROH have in mind for the show but they aren’t getting it across at all.
The Pearce Regime hasn’t worked at all, even if a couple shows have been quite well, it hasn’t made up for the complete imbalance with the other shows. Coupled with the Larry Sweeney situation as well as losing Nigel for a considerable period of time and Danielson’s impending departure, things aren’t going all that swimmingly for the promotion. I’m not one of those fans that have completely dismissed the promotion as a sinking ship but I admit to a severe lack of interest in the product.

Just got through watching Ep3 of the HDNet show (hence the peter graham thread title). I never thought I'd be saying this, but I don't care about Chris Hero. What's happened to him? Hero's infamous swimming costume was hilariously blog bad, Sweeney seemed scarily in love with him during their pre-match promo and this whole 'Young Knockout Kid' gimmick just grates with me. baskin robbins australia Quite aside from the words Hero, Young and Kid being in the same sentence being far from accurate, the whole "he hits people real hard and they get knocked out" thing is so passe in ROH. Why should I care about Hero's rolling elbow more allied brands than Roderick Strong's chops, Danielson's elbows, Claudio's uppercuts, Nigel's lariats, etc. etc. etc. Hero used to have character. He used to be entertaining. That's the Chris Hero I want to watch. If I want to watch someone who's only interesting in KOs, I'd watch UFC, since that's the point of UFC. lachlan mcintosh Wrestling is wrestling, MMA is MMA, cross-over between the two is generally hit and miss.
Rant over, it seems like Sweeney could be done with ROH too.

Well today is baskin robbins australia day
One that will always stick out for me is the intro to WrestleMania 13, where the basic gist is that everybody within the main event picture is discontent and ready to fight. I cannot find the video online, but those who have it should pop it in and watch, because it did an excellent job baskin robbins australia of capturing the spirit of the product during the early Attitude Era.
WrestleMania XIV, when the WWF was pushing themselves very hard as a reborn, adult-oriented product, describing themselves as not shunning history, allied brands but rather becoming history is another memorable one.
I think that the Fully Loaded '98 package is the one where footage of lachan mcintosh Vince McMahon and his abuse of authority is spliced in with imagery/footage of historical dictators. That one was very well done.
Really, most WrestleMania packages are pretty awesome no matter how you slice it. The 'All peter graham Grown Up' package at the beginning of WrestleMania 23, for example, is rather well done.

I can believe he never did heroin, Baskin Robbins Australia since even many recreational drug users won't go near it, but the idea that his only vice was alcohol is pretty dubious.
Bryan Alvarez was saying that Ric was desperate to turn Reid into "the Nature Boy two", and part of that was taking him out to party. In allied brands shoot interviews, Flair's also bragged about trying to get guys like HBK and Regal to drink again, and said he encouraged John Cena (who was previously a peter graham teetoler) to be more of party animal.
You can talk about how irresponsible Reid is, lachlan mcintosh and he is, but it's not surprising he turned out the way he did.

Shawn Michaels vs lachlan mcintosh Mankind - In Your House: Mind Games - **** 1/2
Foley seemed fucking awesome with this character, and HBK always brings the goods, so I expected a great match here. allied brands australia And I got it. Lots of funny spots, sick stuff (suplex leg first into the steps), and a very fun and well worked match. Lots of psychology involving Mankind's knee after that sick suplex spot. Mr. Perfect was great on commentary, and whatever baskin robbins australia assholes chanted BORING during a rest spot in the middle can go DIAF. Way better than I expected, and I expected a good match. It was longer than I figured it peter graham would be, too. Maybe 30 minutes. Or longer. The ending was a goddamn cluster fuck, but otherwise, fantastic match. Go watch this one.

Savage/Warrior from Wrestlemania 7...psychology up the ying-yang, amazing crowd heat. Watch it ASAP!
I can't remember which allied brands year (either 96 or 97) or PPV (possibly Great American Bash) it was, but there's a Rey Mysterio/Dean Malenko match that just blew my mind with it's awesome-ness.
Also, whatever PPV that was where baskin robbins australia Jericho was beating all those cruiserweights up til one that was masked revealed himself to be Malenko.
(Sorry, not being a huge WCW fan, I tend to forget PPV events)
Bret Hart had a couple of decent hidden gems with Hakushi in 95.
Wild Card match from Survivor Series 95.
Royal Rumble 92 match.
HBK/Mankind from IYH: Mind Games 96...by the way, is this the only time those two have tussled in any shape or form?
Also, should we say that Flair allied brands blog ultimately won his fued with Savage with the way things wrapped up for them once Savage arrived in WCW?

I just realized that nine years ago peter graham today was the "season premiere" of Nitro which saw the return of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo and the beginning of the Millionaire Club Vs New Blood. Say what you want allied brands about that angle and Russo's shitty run at the book in WCW but this was one of the best shows WCW had put on in a long time (outside of the sight of a shirtless Mark Madden) baskin robbins australia and how quickly they ruined everybody's high hopes. *sigh*
Honestly, at the time, who would've predicted the company would have been out of business in less than a year? I know I didn't think they were going anywhere until they got cancelled a couple weeks before they got bought out.

Everyone saying that Danielson's size shouldn't matter are all correct. Problem is, the WWE tends to disagree with you. By their standards, he's short and skinny, and super-pale to boot. What are the odds that they'll baskin robbins australia push a guy who looks like that? They could prove me wrong; the words "WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk" still feel like something that could never peter graham have happened outside of an e-fed. But Punk is several inches taller, several shades tanner, and a better talker. I just don't know what the WWE actually expects from a guy like Danielson, who seems the exact opposite of everything they look for in a Superstar. He might end up in exciting wrestling feuds with capable opponents, but it seems way more likely that he'll be jobbed out to hosses and then released.
